GosPEL
The Word says that the wages of sin is death. If you have ever wondered why people die, it is because death is the payment for sin. From the very beginning, in the Garden of Eden where God placed the man and the woman—whom He called Adam and Eve—death entered because they disobeyed God’s instruction. God said, “The day you eat from the fruit of that tree, you will surely die.” I believe you know the story of those first sinners. They ate, and death entered the world through Adam.
That is why people die—people die in different ways: through sickness, murder, wars, or naturally as the body ages and reaches its end. But there are also young people who die, children who die. People we saw standing before us, and the next day they are gone.
And this is exactly where I want you to pause. What would happen if tonight, while you are resting in your bed, the wind blowing, the ceiling above you, darkness around you… you were to die? What would happen if tonight you had to face judgment before a perfect, thrice‑holy, and just God? What would your verdict be—having lied, stolen, cursed, committed fornication, adultery? What would happen to you?
Scripture says that in that judgment a sentence will be established. There is only one path: hell for sinners who do not have the solution or the record that can defend them.
But Scripture also mentions something wonderful: that God, in His infinite goodness, sent His Son into the world so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. That phrase “should not perish” refers to not entering eternal hell. And the opposite is stated: “but have eternal life.”
Beloved, people—at least in the West—have heard of the Lord Jesus Christ. They have heard that He was born of a virgin. They have heard that He was crucified and died for sinners. They have heard that He rose from the dead. They have heard that He ascended into heaven and that He will soon return.
But the question is this: What about you? Do you have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you trust in the only King, Lord, and Savior of your soul? For Scripture says that there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved except the name of Jesus.
The apostle Paul says it clearly: “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.” The Word of God says that those who believe in Him will not be condemned, but those who do not believe are already condemned because they have not believed in the only begotten Son of God.
This is salvation, beloved. This is salvation for miserable sinners—filthy sinners—who have rebelled against their Creator, full of mercy. For He makes His sun rise on the good and the evil, and even the wicked enjoy the mercies of the Lord, just as those who are righteous in Christ Jesus enjoy them even more. But on the day of death, things will change. That common mercy that all men receive, even while sinning against God, will end. But for the righteous there is an eternal inheritance of glory.
Where are you? Have you placed your faith in Christ Jesus? Do you believe that in His death He paid for your sins? Have you repented with all your heart? Are you sure that when you die He will take you to His eternal kingdom—to the heaven prepared for the saints by the Father? Or will you be cast into the lake of fire, the place of weeping and gnashing of teeth, prepared for the devil and his angels?
Salvation is near—even tonight as you meditate in your bed. You can cry out with all your heart to the Lord and say, “O Lord, forgive my sins.” And in repentance and trust, the Word of God says that if you believe—even though you are dead—you will live.
